A girl who admitted to attacking a girl in the street has been told to write a letter of apology to her victim.

The 14-year-old was filmed kicking and hitting her 12-year-old victim in Borehamwood on Sunday.

The video was shared on social media by the victim’s mother and watched tens of thousands of times.

Dozens of people condemned the girl’s actions and pledged support to the victim and her family.

Following an investigation, the police identified the attacker and decided the most appropriate outcome was a community resolution, which in this case involves writing a letter to her victim.

Police say the girl admitted to common assault and showed remorse for her actions, adding the girl had no previous history with the police.

Reacting angrily to the outcome of the investigation, the victim’s mother wrote on Facebook: “Words cannot even describe how we feel.

"For all you too and every person who wants safety for our children as much as we do, Borehamwood police have made the police force look like a laughing stock - a police force we were raised to respect.

“Fear for your children and I can only hope a solution comes from this.”

Hertsmere safer neighbourhood inspector Pete Edwards said: “Whilst we appreciate this incident was distressing for the victim, there were no serious, long-term injuries, and this decision was proportionate and made in line with trusted national guidance.”
