Film fans enjoying the latest release starring Scarlett Johansson might not think twice about an anonymous white van that appears on screen.

But for colleagues of Elstree Studios worker Terry Smith, it represents some of his last work before he was killed in a tragic accident.

It was two years ago that Mr Smith, 40, died when his motorbike collided with a taxi travelling in the opposite direction, close to Elstree and Borehamwood train station, on March 20, 2012.

Mr Smith worked for MGM Cars, which is based at Elstree Studios, in Shenley Road, and provides vehicles to the film industry.

At the time of his death, he had just finished shooting in Glasgow for the film Under the Skin, which stars Ms Johansson as an alien who drives around the Scottish city looking for unsuspecting men to prey upon.

For the film, which was released last Friday, Terry was part of the team that created a specially adapted van with eight hidden cameras inside.

An Elstree Studios spokeswoman said: “It is a fitting tribute that the film is experiencing such great reviews.”

Mr Smith’s son Jamie is carrying on the family tradition as he works as an apprentice at MGM Cars.

MGM Cars also constructed some of the vehicles used for for Kick Ass and the Radio Norwich van that appeared in the recent Steve Coogan film, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.
