BOREHAM WOOD are up to fourth place after they were made to sweat for a 3-2 win over Aveley.

Wood were cruising to victory but then shipped two goals inside the final 20 minutes to set a frenzied final minute.

Lee Allinson’s volley put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Seventeen year-old Jon Clements nabbed the second on 65 minutes with a header which capped a sweet passing move.

It was his first league goal for the club.

Then four minutes the game looked to have been put beyond doubt, Chris Watters supplied Greg Morgan with the perfect ball to blast his shot into the net.

That should have been that, but Aveley defied the odds and mounted a fight-back.

Wood relaxed and they were punished.

David Knight pulled one back with a free header past Wood keeper Tony Tucker Che Stadhart scored another header with a minute ago.

But Wood survived and now close to the summit in the Ryman Premier division.

Afterwards, Wood boss Ian Allinson praised his players for stilling winning while an injury crisis cripples his squad.

“It is frankly outrageous that we are pulling these results out of the bag. I cannot expect any more from my players.

“Again for 75 minutes today they were magnificent. We are missing Curtis Ujah, Kevin Stephens, Ryan Kirby, Jon Wordsworth all on long term injuries, and now Ryan Moran.

“Today we came up against a very good side who play with pace and energy.”
