Boreham Wood were beaten 2-0 by Bath City on Sunday, with the Romans becoming the first side to do the double over the Conference South leaders.

Bath defeated the Wood 2-1 at Meadow Park back in August and City followed up that success with another victory over Ian Allinson’s side at Twerton Park.

New Boreham Wood addition Anthony Jeffrey – who re-signed for the club two days before Christmas – ought to have marked his second debut in style when he fired over Lee Angol’s pass.

Jeffrey was at the centre of the next Wood opening, crossing for Junior Morias to head wide when unmarked.

However, the best opportunity of the first period was also squandered by the league leaders after 22 minutes. Jeffrey beat Dan Ball to the ball and let fly with an effort which was well saved by goalkeeper Jason Mellor.

Morias then drove over from 25 yards and Graeme Montgomery also tested Mellor as Allinson’s side continued to carve out the best chances. Dave Pratt came close for Bath before half time but the game was goalless at the break.

James Russell had to be alert after the restart to keep out Ben Adelsbury’s header from an Ashley Kingston free-kick, before Russell punched the resulting corner against his own crossbar.

The west country outfit took the lead in the 66th minute. The ball bobbled around before reaching Adelsbury and he made no mistake to fire home the opener from ten yards.

Having taken the lead, City then took charge and threatened to extend their advantage through Pratt.

With just four minutes left on the clock the home side did exactly that. Andy Gallinagh won the ball and drove into the penalty area before finding enough space to cross for Adelsbury to notch his second and kill off the contest.

On Boxing Day a brace from the division’s top scorer, Angol, had been enough to see the Wood beat Bishop’s Stortford 2-0 at Meadow Park.

Angol has 18 for the season in the league and his double ensured the Wood will begin 2015 two points clear atop the Conference South.

Boreham Wood travel to Bishop's Stortford on New Year's Day before hosting Ebbsfleet United on Sunday, January 4.
