The difficulties experienced by motorists and pedestrians at Stirling Corner and the decision to trial switching off the part-time traffic lights at the junction has generated a great deal of concern.

Stirling Corner is located outside the borough and is the responsibility of Transport for London (TfL), but Hertsmere Borough Council wishes to work closely with TfL, London Borough of Barnet and Herts Highways to ensure the junction works well for everyone living or working nearby, as well as motorists using the A1.

While recognising the importance of keeping traffic flowing smoothly on major trunk roads in and around London, it is important the community is not adversely affected by changes to signalling at key junctions. The council has contacted TfL which has confirmed switching off the lights is part of a trial and public consultation which runs until June 21.

The community is encouraged to participate in this process and more details can be found on the TfL website at https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk or by emailing STEngagement@ tfl.gov.uk.
