This being the start of my first year as chairman of the Borehamwood branch of The Royal British Legion, I was overwhelmed with the support given to the Remembrance parade by the people of Borehamwood.

The memorial service and wreath-laying went well, with the area packed with people to pay their respects to the two-minutes’ silence.

This was followed by a Remembrance service at All Saints Church, which was very well attended.

The day finished off with an open invitation to all who attended to return to the legion club for refreshments. A big vote of thanks goes to all the services involved in making the day happen, including the borough and town councils; religious leaders for conducting the service; police for crowd and traffic control; parade marshal Staff Sgt Dan Marshallsay; Air Cadet Band for the music; colour and standard bearers for their strenuous efforts.

A big thank you to all the other adult and youth units who took part, and finally to Wayne and the bar staff at the legion for their sterling efforts, including the ladies of the Women’s Section for preparing the sandwiches at very short notice.

Once again, a big thank you goes to all the residents of Borehamwood for supporting us at this time of year.
