Members of the general public who attend the Remembrance Day parade on Sunday at the war memorial in Borehamwood, and indeed similar locations all over the country, will not only be honouring those who died in service to their country, but will equally be sending a powerful message to the critics of this annual ceremony that the nation shares a common grief with those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The recent shameful behaviour of Jonathan Jones, art critic with the Guardian newspaper, in making sneering comments denigrating the poppy floral tribute in London, which in addition to elevating the occasion of Remembrance to a new level of public perception also raised much-needed funds for military charities, must be condemned by the rest of us.

While many films are made, especially in the United States, depicting fictional and non-fictional wartime events to the extent of distortion just to present a more appealing story, the reality is often more revealing to many who have shared this bitter experience of combat.

The Royal British Legion must continue to remain the voice and conscience of the nation and we require to thank and support this organisation for ensuring that we never forget.

The United Kingdom Independence Party will support this occasion by laying a wreath in tribute.
