I recently had the unfortunate luck of requiring a new tyre in an emergency, and foolishly thought that you ‘couldn’t get better than a Kwik Fit fitter’.
They charged me £288.50 for a tyre that is on their website for £199.50 – an £89 difference and approximately £80 more than most other suppliers (if only I knew).
Contacting the store directly, I was quoted £277 by phone, querying the internet price of £199.50. I was informed that if I brought proof I would get the discounted price without any prior booking – so this is not exclusive to the internet.
Customer services replied that managers are encouraged to manage their own stock and that maybe at the manager’s discretion I was given a particular deal (if only I knew).
I am hoping you will publish this letter in your newspaper to make the public aware of this practise.
I am uncomfortable haggling and have no access to mobile internet and, on this occasion, feel I could have got better than a Kwik Fit fitter.
