SHOPPERS are said to be “frightened” after police officers were stabbed during an attack in Kingsbury on Saturday morning.

Tripti Shah, 25, from Kingsbury, moved to the area ten months ago. She said: “I can’t believe something like this happened in this area. It’s frightening that you could go out for a pint of milk and maybe be caught up in this.

“I hope it is something that is a one-off. Everyone has been talking about the police officers and how brave they were. It was good a member of the public wasn’t hurt.”

Mohammed Azad has run healthcare shop, Health First, in Kingsbury Road, for 11 years. He said: “There is crime now and then in this area but this is the first time anything like this happened. People are very frightened. They are coming in and talking about it saying if someone can get the police how are we safe.

"It’s not good what happened to the police officers.

“My wife came in on Saturday morning and realised we couldn’t open up so she left and I came in about 1pm and was refused entry through the front of the shop by police. It affected trade as we couldn’t open up until after 3pm.”

Ketan Vyas, manager of Asian supermarket VB and Sons, in Kenton Road, said: “We were already open that early as it was Saturday and that’s our busiest day. It was all very quick and then there were lots of police in the area."

Assistant manager Scott Doman, from JJ Moons pub, in Kingsbury Road, opposite where the incident took place, said: “We had just opened that morning when a customer came in and told us about it. We went and had a look and there were a lot of police officers and people standing around watching what was happening.

"Many of our customers have been coming into the pub and they can’t believe it happened. The police officers were very brave.”

  • Christopher Houghton, 32, of Milford Gardens, Wembley, was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning in connection with the incident.
