A bank has been closed after thieves attempted to break into the cash machines.
Fire crews were called after an explosion inside the Metro Bank in Theobald Street, Borehamwood.
The cash machine was severely damaged.
The bank in Theobald Street allows people to walk in and withdraw cash overnight.
Detectives are still trying to establish exactly what happened, but believe the attempted cash machinery robberies were done between 1am and 2am.
Spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Constabulary Natalie Dearman added: βAt this time it is unclear how the damage to the cash machine has been caused.β
