Hertsmere Borough Council’s housebuilding plans will get a boost thanks to a grant of £40,000.
The money will come from a £3 million fund set aside by the Department of Communities and Local Government for creating new homes across the country.
In Hertsmere, the authority has set itself a proposed 15-year target to create more than 3,990 new homes.
Housing minister Brandon Lewis said it would “get spades in the ground”.
He added: “The money will help councils clear the way for builders to get on site and get work underway quickly, providing families with new homes and boosting local businesses and jobs."
