A LARGE mural showing a film crew at work is being built outside Elstree & Borehamwood Station.

The artwork is the final stage of the first phase of a project to celebrate the movie and television heritage of the area.

Spearheaded by volunteers from the Elstree Screen Heritage society, the First Impressions Project has already seen Hollywood style stars installed at the station forecourt and banners of iconic films made in the area hoisted above Shenley Road.

Bob Redman, of the First Impressions team, said: “I defy anyone to come out of the station and not notice the artwork. We hope when the whole thing goes up people will say wow.

“And the important thing is it’s stressing the people who work behind the camera – they are the people that make this place so special.”

The First Impressions team has worked tirelessly for three years to realise its ambitious project.

Dealing with protective Hollywood studios in America to overcome copyright issues and securing funding from various local bodies, Mr Redman said it was a great feeling to have reached this stage.

However, eager not to lose momentum, the team is now coming up with new ideas for a second phase of the project.

Although they remain tight lipped about the plans, they say they have already garnered some financial support.
