Voluntary groups have one month left to apply for grants

First published in News

Voluntary groups and organisations have just one month left to apply for up to £3,000 worth of funding through Hertsmere Borough Council’s community grants scheme.

Any group, club or organisation based in Hertsmere, or which delivers activities or services for people living in the borough, can apply for a community grant.

The money can be used towards a specific project or a one-off purchase, or can be used for training, venue hire, producing marketing information or research costs.

Twenty organisations benefitted from community grants in the last round of funding, which ended in April.

Conservative councillor Brenda Batten, Conservative representative, said: "In the past, community grants have helped a wide range of worthwhile causes from providing IT equipment and training opportunities to just helping out with running costs.

"Organisations don’t have to be based in Hertsmere, but they have to provide a service which benefits our residents and the local community.

"It’s very easy to apply and we are keen to hear from any voluntary group or organisation that needs a helping hand so they can continue to provide vital community services."

Phoenix Community Centre in Bushey was awarded £2,750 in the last round of funding, which went towards a digital projector.

The centre hosts a youth club, gardening club and is used by local residents for meetings. The projector will be used to provide activities for youth club members and as a training and learning resource for local residents.

The latest round of funding for community grants is still open. Applications must be in by September 21.
