A councillor's grant is making a splash after he donated cash to revamp Shenley Pond.

The £1,400 donated by Councillor John Usher will pay for new benches around the pond, situated near Cowley Hill.

Redevelopment work began earlier this year, with workers dredging and de-stilting the historic landmark.

The pond dates back to Roman times, but in the 18th century the cage was built beside the pond, used as a holding cell for prisoners on their way to court in Barnet or St Albans.

I thought that Cowley Hill was in Borehamwoood and not Shenley.
Why do the repoerts get there facts right before publishing the artice.Cllr usher should have given his money for traffic light along the road by the Jewish School. not to a pond venture that the children will put there names on the seats.

Shenley Cage Pond is nowhere near Cowley Hill. Surely your reporters have better local knowledge than this?
I'm all for the revamp though.

we have asked the council to help us for traffic lights by the jewish school . they told us to find £100.000 to put to the cost..So why waste money on a pond that is no good to anybody it will not save lifes.
Shenley Parish Council could help but they wont. .
