A man believed to be in his 40s, who was driving the car, was taken to Barnet General Hospital where he remains for treatment.
PC Martin Longley of the road crash investigation team said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died following this collision.
“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who was travelling along the road and saw the vehicles involved either before, during or after the collision to please get in contact.”
A 27-year-old man from Kettering has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was released on bail, due to return to Hatfield Police Station on October 19.
