A Radlett cyclist saddled up in tandem to help raise money for charity.

Neville Newman, 50, signed up for the annual LA Fitness Capital to Coast Cycle Challenge to help raise funds for Norwood, a charity supporting people with disabilities and their families, and the Down's Syndrome Association.

He joined around 2,000 riders on Saturday, June 30, cycling from London and finishing in Brighton.

Mr Newman was joined by John Feuchtwange, 62, who lives at lives at Ravenswood, a residential community for people with learning disabilities in Berkshire run by Norwood.

Mr Newman said: “John and I have been on a number of rides together, to locations including Vietnam and Israel. I have been involved with Norwood for quite a few years and have been really looking forward to this.”

The cyclists were waved off by singer and Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon and were joined by 5-News presenter Matt Barbet and reality TV star Jeff Brazier.

The cycle challenge, now in its 17th year, is open to people of all abilities, and encourages people with learning disabilities to take part, usually riding in tandem with their supporters.

The event is on target to reach its goal of raising £300,000 for the charities.
