Models raised £1,500 for the Breast Cancer Campaign at a fashion show last week.

Cancer Partners UK’s Elstree Cancer Centre, in Centennial Park, which offers the latest treatments to people with the disease, hosted the show on Friday, to mark the centre's second anniversary.

The models comprised past and present patients who have undergone treatment at the centre.

Beauticians pampered the 12 women before they modelled evening dresses donated by Dynasty of Borehamwood before an audience of 70 people.

The event was compared by St Albans actor Ben Richards, who is best known for his role as Nate Roberts in The Bill.

Mr Richards himself had radiotherapy treatment at the centre for bowel cancer earlier this year.

He said: "When I was asked to compere this fashion show, it was a no brainier for me.

"I have had the best treatment from the girls here at Cancer Partners UK throughout my chemo and radiotherapy, and the inspirational women I met on the evening made it a real night to remember.”

Elstree Centre manager Kelly Bullen said: “It was a successful evening in so many ways. It was lovely to see our past patients looking so amazing, and we raised even more money than we hoped, which is great.”

Model Adelle Wedlock, 42, visited the centre in 2010 for daily radiotherapy following her breast cancer diagnosis.

She said: “It was a great evening, even though we were all a little nervous. We all enjoyed being pampered, having our make-up done and getting dressed up, so it was a bit of a treat for us all.”

She added: “Kelly and her team are fantastic and it was good to see them again, and to bring my friends and family along to help raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign, a good cause which is close to my heart.”

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UK, with around 50,000 people being diagnosed each year.

The last decade has seen massive advances in the treatment of breast cancer, and the ongoing work of charities like the Breast Cancer Campaign will ensure this continues.
