Three generations got their running shoes on and took part in the Borehamwood Fun Run at the weekend.

Grandfather David Marlborough, 57, of Melrose Avenue, and son Nicholas, 32, and grandson Freddie, 7, who live in Alexandra Way, ran together in the three-mile run on Saturday, as part of this year's Elstree and Borehamwood Civic Festival.

Organised by Borehamwood Athletic Club, almost 50 runners took their marks at the Hertswood Centre in Potters Lane and made their way to the finish line in Shenley Road.

It was the Marlborough family’s first time taking part in the run and the trio completed the course in just 23 minutes.

Grandmother Jacky, 55, of Melrose Avenue, says she was “very proud” as the three generations of her family ran past the finish line together.

She said: “They had a brilliant time. My grandson wanted to beat the other two, but they made sure they all ran together throughout the course.”

The three generations, who were all born and raised in the Borehamwood area, say they want to encourage other young people to take part next year.

Almost 50 people also turned out for a 10k run.

This was the Elstree and Borehamwood’s 56th annual Civic Festival, which concludes this weekend.
