A teenager from Aldenham has celebrated her wedding day in complete traveller style with the help of nine bridesmaids and a horse and carriage.

Stacey Baker, 18, married her fiancé Joe Cooper, 20, surrounded by over 200 friends and family.

The young bride said of her January wedding: “It was a really nice day and there was a lovely reception.”

The former Bushey Hall School pupil, which is now Bushey Academy, was introduced to her future husband by his grandmother.

The couple have been together for just more than a year and they became engaged in October.

As with many traveller weddings, the bride’s dress was one of the highlights of the day.

She said: “I was very happy with it.

“Everyone was taking lots of pictures.”

The nine bridesmaids, including the bride’s sister Cloie, also had extravagant dresses and her younger brother and godson, who acted as page boys, were dressed in full suits.

The new Mrs Cooper is now getting used to married life in Essex, where her husband works as a farmer.

She said: “It isn’t any different from being boyfriend and girlfriend really.

“I will be quite sad to leave my family though.”

Father-of-the-bride Chris Baker was on hand on the day to walk his daughter up the aisle.

He said: “She’s my little princess - I’m extremely proud of her.

“It was very hard when I realised that it isn’t my job to look after to her anymore.”

The concept of traveller weddings has captured the nation’s attention after a selection of brides from the usually private communities allowed television crews in to film the hit Channel 4 show My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

Mr Baker added: “Travellers are very family orientated – everyone chips in and helps out.

“Every young girl deserves they wedding they want. It doesn’t matter is they are travellers or non travellers – it is just done in a different way.”
