PINNER students were shown the rewards of charity work last week, when volunteers from a hospital radio station visited the school.

On Friday, December 9, a team of volunteers from Radio Northwick Park spent the day with students at Hatch End High School as part of Get Connected Day, an event to encourage charity involvement.

More than 250 pupils learned about the volunteers' work of patient-visiting and compiling hospital radio shows.

Volunteers co-ordinator Jade Wight said: “The day was a real success and it was really encouraging to see the pupils enthusiasm and excitement for the work we do.”

Students recorded a selection of festive jingles to be played to the patients of Northwick Park Hospital throughout December.

As part of the annual charity day, the students will form teams and select a charity to promote for ten weeks, with the best team winning £3,000 for the chosen cause.

The school's head of citizenship Mr Robinson said: "The day was a huge success. The students really engaged with the local charities and there was a really positive atmosphere."
