A PUBLIC inquiry will be held next week to decide whether travellers can continue to live on a section of Green Belt land in Shenleybury.
The site, attached to homes in Shenleybury Cottages, has been the subject of controversy since it was purchased and occupied in 2009.
The family living there have concreted over the land, fenced it off and installed a caravan, portable toilet and generator.
In April last year more than 200 people filled a hall for a public meeting held to discuss the site.
Retrospective permission was sought, but twice denied by Hertsmere Borough Council in June and November last year.
A Government inspector will be asked to consider landowner Sarah Price's appeal over two days at the civic offices, in Elstree Way, Borehamwood, starting on Tuesday.
