A DISABLED shopper has criticised Tesco supermarket for failing to maintain its mobility scooters.

Alan Day, 52, of Edulf Road, claims there have been ongoing problems with the shop's four scooters for months.

But despite phoning and emailing managers at the Shenley Road store and its head office, he says nothing has been done.

Mr Day, who is paralysed down his left leg, said: “It needs sorting out. They had three brand new ones, why have they been neglected? It's ridiculous.”

In the past five months, Mr Day reported problems of flat batteries, flat tyres and broken controls - which mean the scooter does not automatically stop.

The 52-year-old added: “You can imagine the chaos those things are causing if you can't control them – they have a mind of their own.”

On Wednesday, when the Borehamwood & Elstree Times visited the store, two of the scooters were missing their baskets.

Mr Day, who has to book community transport to get to the supermarket, said it had become a nightmare for him to shop at Tesco.

Several attempts have been made by the Borehamwood & Elstree Times to speak to managers at the shop, but no one was available to comment. A request to Tesco head office to respond has also been made.

In 2010, the Shenley Road shop was criticised for having too few scooters. See our related links below.
