POLLING stations in Hertsmere will open at 7am today for voting in local elections and the national referendum on electoral reform.
Thirteen seats are up for election in Hertsmere Borough Council, while all seats on both Aldenham Parish Council and Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council are up for election.
The electorate will also be asked to choose whether the UK should adopt the alternative vote system for choosing MPs.
Stations will close at 10pm, followed by a verification of how many papers have been returned at Allum Hall, in Allum Lane.
The count for the local election will start tomorrow at 12pm, with results expected to be called at about 2-3pm, at the same venue.
Then the count for the national referendum will begin, which the Electoral Commission is expected to announce over the weekend, once it has collated the results.
