STAFF and governors at a secondary school in Borehamwood are celebrating a glowing Ofsted report that rated it as outstanding.

Inspectors visited Yavneh College, in Hillside Avenue, earlier this month and found it to offer an excellent quality of teaching.

The Ofsted report is littered with praise for the Jewish school, stating the ‘students receive excellent teaching and support resulting in outstanding achievement and high attainment’, and ‘lessons are frequently inspirational and enthusiastically received’.

Dr Dena Coleman, headteacher, said: “It is a tribute to the professionalism and dedication of all those involved in the creation of Yavneh College, that a school that did not exist a mere five years ago has now received the accolade of being judged outstanding by Ofsted.”

Sue Nyman, chair of governors, said: ‘I, together with the board of governors and trustees, are so proud of the extraordinary achievement of everyone at Yavneh College.

“Under Dr Coleman’s inspirational leadership everybody gives the best of themselves to maximise the achievement of the children and produce an outstanding school. To have done this in such a short period of time is quite phenomenal.”

However, a letter from Ofsted, which is addressed to the students, does ask the school to make improvements in two areas.

The inspectors ask the school to raise achievement in the sixth form by making sure all students take courses that fully meet their needs and aspirations, and ensure the governing body always challenges the school and holds it to account.
