A MOTHER from Borehamwood will take on the task of becoming a serial marathon runner this year to raise money for charity.

Abbie Alter, 34, from Shakespeare Drive, will be running in several charity runs to donate money to Cancer Research and the British Heart Foundation.

She decided to take on the challenge after running to lose weight after having her children, son Jesse, four, and 14-month-old daughter, Lucy.

Mrs Alter said: “I put on quite a bit of weight with my children and I took up running as the idea was to shift the weight and get healthy.

“I will be doing as many 5k and 10k runs as I can through the year. I have two in April and two in May. One of the runs will the Bupa 10k run in London."

Mrs Alter, who has lived in the area for about six years, works at the offices of airline Easyjet but has now trained to become a consultant for Slimming World.

She said: “I was not ever an exercise person before but I find it a lot easier now. I train three times a week with a friend. After a run I always have a banana and drink some Lucozade.

“My family is really proud of me and as I enjoy running so much I know running all these races will be ok for me.”
