A FORMER private in the Parachute Regiment is training for a 10 mile run to raise money for injured war veterans.
Along with fellow members of the Bushey and Hemel Hempstead jujitsu clubs, Borehamwood man Peter Lavelle is entering the Para 10 challenge on September 12.
Mr Lavelle, 41, will run the Parachute Regiment's 10 mile route with a 35lb rucksack in Catterick, North Yorkshire.
The group will be raising money for Help for Heroes - the charity for those wounded in Britain's current conflicts.
He said: "I do quite a lot of half marathons to keep fit, but it's been quite a long time since I ran with a 35lb rucksack on my back - I'd forgotten how much they burn your back!"
Mr Lavelle served just under five years in the Second Battalion Parachute Regiment, from 1989-1993. During his time with the regiment he served in Northern Ireland.
