A PUZZLE company in Elstree has won an award for Business of the Year.

The Happy Puzzle Company, based in Elstree Road, received the accolade at the TrainE TraidE business awards held in London on February 24.

Managing director Gavin Ucko, 40, from Edgware, was presented with the award at a ceremony at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair.

Formed in 1992, The Happy Puzzle Company runs around 5,000 programmes each year using 3D puzzles and challenges for puzzle parties and events for children and adults. It also holds Puzzle Challenge Days in over 1,200 schools every year.

Mr Ucko dedicated the award to his team at the company and said: “We are exceptionally proud to have received our first major award.

"It has been well earned by my outstanding team, whose hard work and dedication to improving the thinking skills of children and their families is reaping real results.”

Mr Ucko has now also got his children, Joel, 9, and Samuel, 7, involved in the business by getting them to create a puzzle book called All Clued Up! Junior.

Mr Ucko said: “The original version of the book, All Clued Up, was aimed at ages nine to adult.

"We thought it would be a great idea to write a version for young children so I suggested that the boys should do it and they did, obviously with a lot of help and guidance, but they can feel very proud of what they have achieved.”
