This is the latest of a series of utterly derogatory articles which bear no relation to the truth New Block On The Flats, Borehamwood & Elstree Times, May 21.

It is a wilful spite on a development which was years ahead of its time and to call Canterbury House a tired old tower block only shows your complete ignorance of a construction which is a pleasure to live in, which is warm in the winter and cool in the heat we have recently experienced.

No fines concrete is a living breathing material and has been subject to sheer unadulterated prejudice by the building societies who have the effrontery to refuse a mortgage to lessees although only too keen to advance money at cost to the very housing associations who had the cheek to disenfranchise half the population in this country due to prejudice, ignorance and outright wilful misinterpretation of the facts by a legal profession who was only too keen to libel their German associates at Nuremberg but have forgotten their own advice when it comes nearer home, as though they are suffering from blind spots even when it happens in front of their own eyes.

I have decided to take the bull by the horn and have put our flat on the fifth floor of Canterbury House on the market on the internet for £300,000. It has been there for six weeks and at the same time I have written to the chief executive of Ridgehill pointing out that all the improvements they have been talking about is nothing but remedial work to put right the outright vandalism they have been responsible for.

I want to put to rest once and for all the ignorance, prejudice and utter irresponsibility of everyone concerned suggesting that municipal dwellings are somehow worth considerably less than privately owned dwellings. The only criterion is location and employment opportunities. Everything else is utter nonsense. Estate agents are the worst offenders of this prejudice, followed closely by solicitors and accountants, none of whom have the slightest idea what they are talking about.

I am enclosing a copy of the very letter I have written to Ridgehill, a similarly worded letter was sent to Hertsmere Corporation requesting compulsory acquisition at the market value of £300,000. If you want to do something useful for this community you should follow this up rather than writing derogatory articles without the slightest attempt on your part to verify the facts.
