Train operator First Capital Connect's fears are groundless because the Midland main line is to be upgraded to let it handle more freight trains, Helioslough has argued.
Cross-examing the company's commercial director Hugh Clancy, David Forsdick said: “There is a strong government push for enhancement of capacity, isn't there”
The witness replied : “Yes – but only for trains north to south, not as far as I know from south to north.”
Mr Forsdick said “Your approach is that Network Rail must prove that this can be done.
“It cannot be proved until the timetabling process for 2015 has been completed.”
