SHENLEY Methodist Church held an Easter Sunrise Communion to raise money for the Action for Children charity.
Hymns and prayers started at 6.15am on Easter Sunday, at the Walled Garden, at Shenley Park, in Radlett Lane.
Margie Wilson, secretary, said: “People travelled from Shenley, Potters Bar, Radlett but also from Barnet, Edgware and the furthest afield this year was Tracy Wilkinson, who is now living in Rhode Island (USA) but was previously resident in Shenley.
“Although we didn't see the sun rise due to the overcast conditions, we didn't have snow or frost as in previous years - in fact it was the warmest morning so far and even the light sprinkling of rain didn't dampen the spirit. In fact, it was reminiscent of the tradition of baptisms which used to occur on Easter Sunday, so appropriate we all got a little wet. The dawn chorus provided idyllic accompaniment to communion.”
This was the third year that the service was held and over 45 people attended, raising more than £146 for the charity Action for Children.
Refreshments and breakfasts were served at the Orchard Tea Room.
