Plans to develop a former pub site plagued by ant-social behaviour have been withdrawn – but a revised scheme is set to come forward.

In the summer of 2020, Hertsmere Borough Council submitted a proposal for 52 homes on the site of the old Directors Arms in Cranes Way, Borehamwood.

It involved 34 flats and 18 townhouses, with 24 of the homes designated as affordable, and 72 car parking spaces.

Planning documents described the land, formerly home to the Bull and Tiger and then Directors Arms pubs, as in a “state of disrepair" and an "eyesore", with a "long history" of anti-social behaviour.

The application had drawn 94 objections and there has also been a campaign to build a GP surgery rather than homes.

On Thursday, the council withdrew its application - but has not given up on the plans.

Instead, the site is to be taken forward by Hertsmere Development Ltd (HDL), a development, investment and management company owned by Hertsmere Borough Council.

A council spokesperson said an application will be submitted for a revised scheme in due course.
