All lanes have reopened on the M25 after a lorry burst into flames this morning (February 2).

The clockwise carriageway was completely blocked between junction 24 for Potters Bar and 25 for Enfield after the fire broke out at around 5am.

The fire was put out by firefighters but as many as three out of four lanes remained closed throughout rush hour to allow the lorry to be recovered and for any damage to the road to be fixed.

At one stage, queues on the M25 tailed back towards junction 21 for the M1 in Hertfordshire with National Highways reporting delays of more than an hour.

Because of the traffic delays on the M25, routes near the motorway are busier this morning.

This included Bignell's Corner in South Mimms at junction 23, Baker Street and Dancers Hill Road near Potters Bar, Mutton Lane in Potters Bar, Stagg Hill towards Cockfosters, and the A1 southbound between the M25 and Stirling Corner in Borehamwood.

National Highways said all lanes reopened on the M25 at around 10.30am and all of the delays on the motorway and surrounding routes have now cleared.
