Hertsmere Borough Council has officially launched the Hertsmere Community Lottery with an online event for local good causes.

Twenty-four different organisations from across the borough, including charities, youth groups, sports clubs, heritage organisations and conservation groups, attended the virtual event on October 13.

Councillor Meenal Sachdev, who opened the good causes launch event, said: "It was a privilege to welcome everyone to the virtual event, and I was delighted so many good causes joined us. We are looking forward to signing up plenty of local groups to the Hertsmere Community Lottery, as it offers a simple way for them to raise money for their good causes.

"We are committed to continuing our support of local voluntary and community groups, and this is a good way to spread the benefit more widely across the borough."

Once a good cause has signed up to the Hertsmere Community Lottery they will be able to set up their own lottery page, and receive 50p in every pound spent by players who choose to support their cause. A further 10p in every pound will go to other local good causes from across the borough.

Local good causes that want to be a part of the lottery can find out more or register online at www.hertsmerecommunitylottery.co.uk. The website is also where residents can buy lottery tickets when sales go live on November 16.

Hertsmere Community Lottery's first draw is on December 18. Players have a one in 50 chance of winning one of the prizes, which range from the £25,000 jackpot to three extra lottery tickets.
