Veteran actor Dave Prowse visited Elstree on Friday to mark the 30th anniversary of the release of Star Wars, in which he played arch villain Darth Vader.

The original trilogy was shot at Elstree Film Studios, in Shenley Road, during the 1970s and 80s.

Mr Prowse said: "I have not had the opportunity to look around Elstree Studios for some years and it was marvellous to see the improvements and the giant George Lucas sound stage.

"The fascination with Star Wars never seems to abate, and I am still invited to conventions all around the world. It is amazing to think it all started in a small Hertfordshire town and not in a galaxy far, far away."

Mr Prowse is pictured with Councillor Jean Heywood, Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood, and Paul Harrison, of Elstree Props.
