It's not often an issue comes along that galvanises a community into a long-term campaign, but people have been fighting to protect the Woodcock Hill area of open space in Borehamwood for more than ten years.
Now it's crunch-time as a pressure group of residents faces a David-and-Goliath-style battle against the landowners, the giant housebuilding company George Wimpey, in a bid to secure the land village green status.
Members have made a rallying cry for help with money and man-power.
And if people do value the last remaining green area in south-west Borehamwood, then now is the time to show support.
No doubt the developer will argue that by building homes on the site, they will be doing their bit to ease the chronic housing shortage. But surely Borehamwood has already done its bit by giving up the old school sites and the former fire research station.
