Hertswood Academy achieved record GCSE results with many students performing above the national average.

Faces were filled with joy as excited students eagerly opened their envelopes do find out how they did.

And as a whole, the academy followed on from its A-level success with another set of impressive results.

Borehamwood Times:

More than 80 per cent of the pupils achieved a grade 4-9 in biology, chemistry, physics, sociology, psychology, philosophy, French, Spanish, art, photography, resistant materials, textiles, and citizenship. Sixty per cent or more achieved a grade 4-9 in maths and English.

Under a new system, pupils have received numbered grades with an 8 and 9 equivalent of an A*. A 4 is a C.

The top eight performing students collectively achieved 48 grade 9’s and 8’s and 19 grade 7’s.

Borehamwood Times:

Siana Brooker achieved two A’s, a 9, five 8’s and two 7’s. She said: “I did a lot better in French and history than I was expecting and this is a relief. I will be studying physics, chemistry, maths, and sociology in sixth form.”

Meanwhile Lucy Barnes achieved three 7’s, an 8 and two 9’s. She will be studying English literature music, philosophy and ethics from September.

Urse Bloxham impressively received four 9’s and six 8’s and said she had been shaking” at the thought of opening her results but was absolutely delighted when she found out.

Borehamwood Times:

Paul Cooper, who has led the year group right from when they first started at Hertswood Academy in year seven, said: “These results show the belief these students have in themselves and they really deserve this.”

Head teacher Peter Gillett added: “The results have doubled over the last five years and I am over the moon. We are delighted by our GCSE results this year. I have to thank the parents, carers, and teachers for their support and of course the pupils for the hard work they have put in.

“Many of our students are looking forward to beginning sixth form. Congratulations to everyone.”
