Social media was whirring with reports of a stabbing on Friday night.
The incident in Thornbury Gardens, Borehamwood was attended by emergency services after they had received calls concerning welfare for a man.
Police from Hertfordshire Constabulary were called to the scene at 9.37pm and officers were in attendance with paramedics and an air ambulance.
Services found a man in his 40s who died at the scene despite paramedics trying to treat him.
The death is being treated as non-suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
