A Jewish LGBT advocate in Mill Hill has been recognised in the Queen's birthday honours list.
Peggy Sherwood has been honoured for her contribution to the Jewish community through her work with the Jewish Gay and Lesbian Group.
Ms Sherwood, who has lived in the borough for around 30 years, became involved with the group 20 years ago, becoming president for 15 years before stepping down in November 2015, though she is still regularly involved.
She said: "I’m proud to be Jewish and I’m proud to be a lesbian but most of all I am a proud Jewish lesbian.
"JGLG provided social and religious opportunities for me to meet other people who were both Jewish and LGBT+."
Ms Sherwood said she was proud to have organised join events with their sister group Imaan, for LGBT+ Muslims, as well as an interfaith pride service which brought together Christians, Jews, Quakers and Muslims.
Of her honour in the Queen's birthday list, she said: "It’s made me immensely proud but it’s also made me feel very humble."
Since stepping down as president Ms Sherwood has certainly remained busy: she has been involved in the winter night shelter through Homeless Action in Barnet, a coffee club for Syrian refugees, walking dogs for the elderly in Mill Hill and Borehamwood and organised for her synagogue to deliver food to a nearby foodbank.
