A school has been rated 'good' by an education watchdog for the first time since 2003.

Summerswood Primary School, in Furzehill Road, in Borehamwood, has been graded as 'good' by Ofsted for the first time since 2003.

The inspector said the school has strong leaders and managers leading to the necessary needed improvements and the head teacher has created a clear vision and culture for school improvement.

Head teacher Sarah Kneller said: "This is fantastic news for our community, the pupils and the staff.

"It proves that hard work does pay off. I am so proud of my whole team who have all gone that extra mile to ensure that we were able to prove the progress we have made.

"But this does not mean we are complacent, this is just the start and we look forward to going from strength to strength on our pathway to success.

"Our community is important to us and we look forward to sharing this success with them."

However the inspector suggest ways the school could improve including demonstrating how actions are followed through and how governors can evaluate the impact of school initiatives.

This is the first time for more than a decade that the school has not required improvement.
