A woman who had a drinking problem was found by her daughter after accidentally drowning herself in her bath, an inquest heard.

Linda Coyne, 31, who lived in Aycliffe Road, Borehamwood, died on February 14 after being found by her daughter in her bath.

Coroner Geoffrey Sullivan concluded Miss Coyne had died because of an alcohol related accident at the inquest today at Hertfordshire Coroner’s Court.

Her partner, Christopher Murphy, said he planned to take their children to the cinema on the day of her death.

Miss Coyne said she wanted to stay at home but wanted some soup and a roll. Mr Murphy took his partner to the shop but there was only soup available.

On the way home, Miss Coyne asked to stop at another shop to purchase a roll. She went into the shop with her daughter.

Mr Murphy said: “When we got to the cinema after dropping Linda off at home I asked my daughter if she bought some alcohol. She said no.

“I then asked her if she was lying and she said yes and Linda had bought a small bottle of wine.”

Mr Murphy told the court the reason he asked this question was because Miss Coyne had a bit of a problem with drink saying she would drink a small bottle of wine or cans.

After watching a film Mr Murphy called Miss Coyne to see if she wanted any food but there was no answer.

He said: “I bought her some food from KFC and went home. All the lights were off but I could hear water running.

“I sent my daughter upstairs to see whether water was left on. She then shouted telling me to come upstairs as mummy was underwater.”

Mr Murphy went upstairs and saw Miss Coyne submerged underwater in the bath with a small bottle of white rum in the bathtub.

He lifted her out and called 999 and began CPR. The paramedics arrived and took over CPR from Mr Murphy however she was pronounced dead.

It was said during the inquest the two had been together for 14 years and they did have a couple of disagreements but they had been fine with each other during the weekend.

Detective Constable Richard Brain, told the hearing there was no third party involvement with Miss Coyne’s death.
