More than 100 children took part in Hertfordshire’s first ‘Park and Glide’ event.
Pupils from St John’s Infant and Nursery School, in Radlett, took part in the event on Monday and scrapped the car journey to scoot to school instead.
The event was hailed a huge success by parent governor Angela Stephenson, responsible for the organisation event alongside the head teacher at the school.
She said: “More than 100 of our children scooted from the local recreation park, where we asked parents to leave their cars, and when they arrived at school they all received a sticker and were able to scoot around a specially designed track.
“We installed scooter pods so we could park all the scooters and we received a great response from the parents as well.”
The school is hoping to achieve a silver award from Modeshift STARS, a national school awards scheme established to recognise schools supporting alternative and sustainable forms of travel to school.
They plan to participate in similar future events including ‘Walk to School Week’.
