A young girl and her mother have had the 'time of their lives' with a special trip to Disneyland Paris.

Dani Howard, 10, from Tompkins Lane, Borehamwood, developed Type 1 diabetes shortly after she was born and has to have around five injections a day.

On Sunday Dani and her mum Donna Amer, 35, were chosen to join a group of other children with serious, life threatening illnesses for a special trip to Disneyland Paris.

Miss Amer said: "I thought it was a joke at first. It was such an amazing experience. We both had the time of our lives. It was amazing.

"We were taken in a convoy of around 100 other taxis and the motorway was closed for us to pass all the way to Disneyland.

"Words cannot describe what it was like without seeing it. My little girl cannot stop smiling."

The trip was organised by a Magical Taxi Tours, a charity which takes more than 200 children, suffering from a range of chronic debilitating illnesses and life limiting conditions, on a special trip.

This convoy, can be over three miles long when running and consists of at least 100 taxis, City of London Police escorts, Gendarmerie Nationale, London Ambulance NHS Trust vehicles and AA breakdown trucks.

Miss Amer believes these taxi drivers do not get any publicity for the work they do with this charity and most have done it on multiple occasions and for her the best part of the trip was their driver who was with them the whole day.

Miss Amer said: "The driver was fantastic. He spent some of his own money. None of the drivers get paid for anything of this and anything they spend comes from their own pocket.

"He just wanted to give something back to these children with these illnesses. It was the first time he had done this before and he wanted to get involved because of what the young children have to go through.

"It was out of this world. I am so grateful for him. He made the trip even more special for us from the time we left the hospital to the time we returned back to England."

Dani was nominated to take part in the trip by her own nurse who put her name forward and Dani took her cousin Grace with her for the day trip.

Miss Amer said the convoy would stop regularly and there would be activities for them including face painting and once at Disneyland there was a ball organised with all the different Disney characters.
