An amnesty across Hertfordshire will begin today to encourage the public to surrender unwanted firearms.
Recent changes to the firearms laws, which came into force in July, could mean that some gun owners may unknowingly be in possession of an illegal firearm.
During the Hertfordshire-wide amnesty, which will run until November 21, members of the public will be encouraged to surrender any firearms in their possession to the police, without fear of prosecution.
A number of firearms have already been surrendered prior to the amnesty.
To surrender a firearm, contact the police on 01707 806126 or email BedsandHertsFLU@herts.pnn.police.uk during the amnesty.
