Students across Borehamwood have been celebrating their success after their school received record-breaking results.

Sixth form and college students have faced a nerve-wracking wait for their A-level results.

But Hertswood Academy recorded its highest ever number of A* grades and the highest ever AAB percentage.

Andrew Hare, of Hertswood Academy, received one A* and two As but says he has a lot of decisions to make about his future.

He said: “I’ve got an offer for Birmingham to study physics, but I’m a bit unsure of what to do. I’m going to have to think about it for the next few days, and maybe I’ll reapply for Oxbridge.”

Around 98 per cent of students from the school were offered their first choice universities, with 12 per cent going on to study at one of the top-ranking Russell group universities.

Keen artist Georgia O’Brien will be heading to Bristol University to study English literature this September after receiving two A*s and an A.

She said: “It is such a relief. I woke up this morning and just grabbed my laptop straight away to find out if I’d got in to university. My parents are really pleased, and so am I. I was so nervous opening my results envelope.”

The school provided its students with free ice cream as a treat for all their hard work over the last two years.

Headteacher Peter Gillett said he thought the pupils deserved it after their results. He added: “We’ve had record best results at A-level this year, which is down to all the hard work and dedication of pupils, parents and staff.”
