Tradesmen are being told to put down their hammers and pick up an application form to become Britain’s top tradesman.

Screwfix, which has a store in Borehamwood, is launching its annual competition to find and recognise the country’s best builders and helpful handymen.

Winners will not only hold the top title, but will also win the keys to a brand new £28,000 van with all the gadgets and livery they need.

Last year joiner Tom Ball walked away with the crown and says it has brought him new customers and filled his work book for months.

He added: “It has been an incredible year. Holding the title of Britain’s Top Tradesman has been a great endorsement for the business and for myself. When customers see that someone in the local area has won this award from Screwfix they want you out on their job straight away. The last year has been great.”

The Britain’s Top Tradesman Award is given to those who can prove they excel in their business.

Entries are open until September 14, and application forms can be picked up in store on Stirling Way.

Regional finalists will go head to head in October and the national final will be in November.
