Herts MPs renew commitment to support dementia campaign
MPs across Hertfordshire renewed their commitment to improve support for family carers of loved ones with dementia.
Carers and MPs took the campaign to Westminster on Monday, speaking movingly about their experiences at the meeting at Portcullis House.
Politicians including Hertsmere MP James Clappison supported the case for commissioning specialist dementia nursing care in Hertfordshire.
Roma Mills, carers involvement manager for Carers in Hertfordshire Carers, said they group had produced a cost-effective, quality model, which would give carers the continuing support they need as the disease progresses.
She added: “Carers of people with dementia tell us they need timely access to clinical advice not just at the point of diagnosis but over the longer term. Too many are being left to cope on their own.”
Other MPs who attended were Anne Main, MP for St Albans, Stephen McPartland, MP for Stevenage, and Oliver Heald, MP for North East Hertfordshire.
