Professional and amateur athletes alike raced to cross the finish line at the Borehamwood 10K race and fun run.

Running club The St Albans Striders seized victory with the top two places in the men’s race on Sunday.

The group, which has over 300 members, raced to victory with Gary Warren and Martin Whitworth taking first and second place.

Tom Remphrey, who is not a member of the striders, came in in third place.

First place in the women’s race went to Allison Kaye, who had attended the event with son Sam and was fundraising for a nurture group room for Saffron Green Primary School.

Charlotte Lees went home with second place, while Charlotte Cannisord came in in third.

The run was organised by the Borehamwood Athletic Club as part of this year’s 58th festival celebrations.

Along with the competitive 10K, the club also organised a fun run for runners of all abilities.

Taylor Dates came in first place in the male category, with Calum Egan taking second and Jacob Barensielt coming in third.

In the female category, Molly Saunders was awarded first place while Elizabeth O’Gorman took second place and Eleanor Doglish went home with third.

All ages were welcome to take part in the fun run, with a number of spectators commenting that they were pleased to see a number of children had enterred.

Pauline Poole, who organises the event, said the event had seen less entries than normal and thought the World Cup may have had something to do with it.

She added: “I think everyone enjoyed it, and it was very hot.”
