Hertsmere’s Labour party has hit back against claims that the Conservatives are the only party to field candidates from ethnic minorities.

The Labour candidate for Brookmeadow, Najaf Raza, is of Pakistani heritage, while Shenley candidate Colin Stanolu is from Romania.

The claims that Conservatives are the only party to field candidates from ethnic minorities came from candidate Victor Eni, who said he was proud to be standing as an ethnic minority candidate.

Councillor Ann Harrison, Hertsmere Labour group leader, said: “The Labour Party is fielding two such candidates in this election and has had many such candidates in the past across the borough.”

Hertfordshire county councillor Leon Reefe added: "We have had a number of ethnic minorities over the last few years. Our party has good mix of people, including ethnic minorities and women, and so is one of the most diverse."

As I mentioned in the interview to the Borehamwood Times, The Conservative party is the only major party fielding a minority candidate from Borehamwood. Not from Elstree, not from Shenley and certainly not from Bushey or Potters Bar.
I am residing in Cowley Hill ward and proud to be the candidate for my ward..
Ann Harrison is not residing in Borehamwood and she is one of the 3 Labour Councillors, 2 of which are not residing in the town representing Cowley Hill ward . Najaf Raza lives in Bushy and Labour candidate for Brookmeadow.
I rest my case.

The real question here is why does Mr Eni feel it necessary to play the race card? Would he not prefer to be elected for what he believes in rather than his ethnicity?

With reference to the furore over the comments made by Victor Eni it would appear he has made a regrettable excursion into the semantics of the English language that will provide even more opportunity for his growing band of critics to exploit?
Napoleon Bonaparte in addition to taking his place in the annals of military history also earned a literary entitlement for his legacy to posterity with the now immortalised words: 'In politics stupidity is not a handicap'.
Others may now believe this gives Victor an unfair advantage over the rest of us?
The result of the election in Cowley Hill may hopefully influence him to return to the drawing board of candidate pre-election protocol to plan his next attempt with a more convincing performance that he understands how to make a more contrite début into the forum of local politics.
When you consider the colonial history of this country the Conservative Party or its chosen latter day candidates is hardly qualified to lecture the rest of us about ethnic tolerance, ethnic opportunities or ethnic representation?
UKIP up until the week prior to close of nominations was privileged to have Sushil Patel, father of Priti Patel Conservative MP. standing as a candidate in Bushey North until he decided to withdraw for personal and family reasons.
UKIP have ethnic candidates standing for the local council and the European Parliament in seats all over the country.
We live in a democracy which the families and relatives of many of these ethnic candidates of all political parties fought gallantly and successfully to preserve.
They have more than earned their right to live in this country and to represent all of us at elections without the need to draw attention to their ethnic origins.

I mentioned my ethnicity in answer to one of the questions from the newspaper among other great policies and actions of the conservative party,

The Conservative Party is working for the people of Britain and this should be acknowledged.

Mr Frank Ward, I am surprise that it took you so long to join in.

Has the Labour party descended so low for their Leader Ann Harrison to be harassing my 12 year old boy today in the street. I do not think that this is acceptable in 21st century politics and i shall be making a formal complaint to the Labour Party. I do not believe that any decent adult should approaching a boy of 12 to complain about his parents.

In response to your idle curiosity regarding the delay in my intervention, I must confess to the human frailty of the asinine assumption that in a moment of reflection you may have repented and retracted your evidently misleading comment?
Alas, I fear this was not to be!
Suffice to say your initiation into the sinister arena of local party politics may now prove to be more arduous and protracted which no doubt will inspire and motivate your growing band of on-line comment critics?
Meanwhile, I have more legitimate political targets on which to focus my invective, watch this space!

Well then make your complaint and dont air it on this thread- I find this to be really puerile and it make s you look like the 12 year old; it's just 'he said she said'.

Victor

While the allegation that your son has been harassed by Labour Councillor, Ann Harrison may prove palatable to many within the community, the description of 'harassment' must not be taken out of context.
For Councillor Harrison to be guilty of 'harassment' there would require to be more than one occasion of this alleged incident having taken place.
Assuming this allegation is founded and proven with supporting evidence then you must complain directly to the Chairman of Hertsmere Constituency Labour Party, although this is likely to be shoved under the carpet, with a copy of this for what its worth, to the General Secretary of the Labour Party in London requesting that your complaint on behalf of your son and containing a detailed account of exactly what Councillor Harrison is alleged to have said, be investigated.
This is unacceptable alleged behaviour by any interpretation and may be an indication of how frustrated the Labour Party locally has become due to the growing uncertainty of both the local and MEP elections to the point where everything and everybody who may not favour their Party is then treated with alleged hostility? .
Meanwhile, on a much lighter note, Councillor Harrison may have discovered during the alleged harassment and dialogue that your son is not destined to follow in his father's footsteps as a dedicated Conservative, Liberal Democrat or even sadly a member of the Labour Party, but harbours a hidden suppressed desire as yet to take flight, in joining UKIP at the age of Fifteen?
All application are treated in the strictest confidence and there is no legal entitlement for parents to be made aware of their children’s defection.
