A charity that helps people with mental health problems on the road to recovery has been recognised for its volunteers.

Herts Mind Network, which provides mental health services from its centre in Borehamwood, has been presented with Hertfordshire Volunteer Centre's volunteer management award.

The award aims to raise awareness of good management in volunteer recruitment, involvement, support, training and recognition.

Herts Mind Network clinical director Carol Harris said: “We value the crucial work done by our volunteers across Hertfordshire, many of our services would not be the same without them.

“Volunteering can improve a person’s wellbeing and helps Herts Mind Network support as many people as possible.

“We’re delighted to be recognised by the Hertfordshire Centre and hope to continue to provide an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for all our volunteers.”

The organisation currently has 100 volunteers who help people suffering mental illness across the county.

Many of them have experienced similar problems themselves and have used volunteering to help them on the road to recovery.

The organisation says there is a rising demand for its services, which include support groups and courses, counseling and vocational advice, and is seeking more volunteers.
