Borehamwood firefighters visit Woodlands Primary School

Borehamwood Times: Children squirt the hoses Children squirt the hoses

Delighted children tried on helmets and scrambled into a fire engine when firefighters visited their school.

Firefighters from Borehamwood Fire Station dropped in on Woodlands Primary School in Alban Crescent yesterday to teach children about fire safety.

A rapt audience of 40 children asked questions about the work of the firebrigade and how to stay safe.

Then, amid screams of delighted laughter, the children braved the cold to sit in the fire engine and brave the hoses.

Watch Commander Bob Williams said: "The visit was part of our day to day engagement with our community.

"One minute we are engaging with children, next it’s an old people's home, then we're extinguishing a house fire or extricating a victim of a road traffic collision. We take it all in our stride."
